Rotel Upgrades RC-1590 and RC-1572 Preamplifiers

Rotel has upgraded a pair of its preamplifiers to “deliver higher levels of acoustic performance”.

Rotel's RC-1590MKII and RC-1572MKII feature a host of acoustic and performance upgrades, according to the company. We are told that both of these well-respected preamps have had their acoustic circuits analysed and significantly improved by leveraging technologies engineered for the flagship Michi series.

Following in the footsteps of the recently renewed A14, RA-1572 and RA-1592, apparently 75 critical component changes have been made in the RC-1590MKII and RC-1572MKII. For instance, we can expect new coupling capacitors directly in the audio signal path to deliver improved frequency response in the DAC circuits which now travel via a Texas Instruments premium 32-bit/384kHz DAC.

The DAC power supply filter capacitors, volume circuit and XLR balanced circuits also benefit from resistor and capacitor upgrades, isolating the independent DC power supplies and resulting in a lower noise floor, says Rotel.

Additionally, both units support MQA and MQA Studio via the PC-USB input and are certified Roon Tested.

Both the RC-1590MKII and RC-1572MKII draw power via Rotel's in-house manufactured toroidal transformers, with the former sporting two that are physically and electrically isolated, providing dedicated analogue and digital supply voltages to all critical circuits. The transformer design reduces stray radiated emissions and feeds a bank of slit-foil, low ESR capacitors to deliver stable current to all sensitive circuits with reduced noise and distortion and an ultra-quiet noise floor, promises the manufacturer.

The upgraded models support balanced XLR inputs and outputs, Moving Magnet Phono stage input for turntable connectivity, analogue and digital source inputs, wireless aptX and AAC Bluetooth.

The new MKII models are available in both silver and black colours, and expected to be available late June 2021. Local pricing has not yet been confirmed.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
