Buying a subwoofer?

Recommended Posts

I am running very small Proac Super Tablets (5" woofer) and love the top and mid but am lacking bass badly. I was thinking about getting a Rel subwoofer to add some bottom end to the setup. What are thoughts on subwoofers with two channel setups. I've researched and had mixed responses. What do you think?

Done quite a bit of listening of your Proac's & can attest to the low bass O/P.

I think a dedicated Sub gives the best music presence for a pair of speakers on stands. Not an expert on REL's , sorry.

What is your budget? Also, please tell us more about your 2 channel setup and room

If positioned and integrated properly, a sub will enhance a 2 channel system. However, others think it is sacrilege!  Hence you will get divergent views.

Best if you try it yourself and let your ears be the judge.

    • Hey, good to find a forum like this in New Zealand. I'm quite new to this whole hi-fi (well, medium-fi on my budget) / home theatre thing. I'm piece-mealing together a system from cheap but relatively good components sourced largely from Trade Me.  There's always lots of a questions along the way, and I'm sure there's plenty of wisdom around here to help out. I'm hoping there might be some selling posts from time to time too? I'm a member of a couple of overseas forums and the amount of cool stuff I just can't access is quite frustrating! Anyhow, thanks for having me, and I look forward to getting involved.
